Description

PHO Rounds: Promoting Early Childhood Development through multi-sectoral intervention packages anchored in nurturing care

In October 2016, the Lancet published a series, “Advancing Early Childhood Development: from Science to Scale.” This series was developed in response to the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and focussed on several areas including: analyzing early childhood interventions across the five sectors of health, nutrition, education, child protection, and social protection. This presentation will provide a summary of the evidence based review that informed the series and will focus on the need for interventions to be multi-sectoral and anchored in nurturing care to ensure their successful and sustainable implementation. Key recommendations include: building preventive and promotive packages on existing delivery platforms, targeting multiple risks, applied at developmentally appropriate times during the life course.
